I've been to our home games at the WO and the Williamstown game.
The return to WO, despite not being in the context I'd really love, was amazing. As I walked in the Hyde St Band were playing Highland Cathedral, my favourite bagpipe tune, I stood next to the race and just really enjoyed the gathering of staunch Footscray people. When the chant went up, I did get a bit emotional and reflective.
Every opportunity to get home and see our Club play footy in the heartland is something I will really value. I'll make sure my 3 yr old nephew gets to experience it as well. Its important the kids develop a connection to the place.
I'm concerned about the lack of fight that exists in our Club at the moment. The greatest moment in McCartney's tenure so far was the big blue at half time v Melbourne last year. It was stirring to see the boys get stuck in and have the fans rally to the call. This era of the Club has had far too few moments of a similar nature.
We need to start playing to our identity and come out snarling.
