So Peter Gordon the previous President is taking over again after the 16 seasons of David Smorgon as the El Supremo

Peter Gordon 1989 - 1996
David Smorgon 1996 - 2012
Peter Gordon 2012 - ?

Shades of what happened in the coaching situation 1969 -

Charlie Sutton 1951-1957
Ted Whitten 1957-1966
Charlie Sutton 1967 -1968
Ted Whitten 1969-1971

Two coaches in the space of 20 seasons and now 2 Presidents in the space of 23 years.

So will Smorgon replace Gordon again like Sutton and Whitten?

Are David Smorgon and Peter Gordon related to each other ? They look quite a bit alike. I wish Peter Gordon would change the name back to Footscray but does not appear to want to.

No, I don't believe that they are related, however Peter Gordon is the cousin of well known social worker Les Twentyman, so we may see more of Les from now on.

Well Peter was president when we were Footscray, perhaps he has a soft spot for the name. Anyway, is it possible that a motion can be made at the next general meeting to this effect (or the one after)? Of course it can, but will it have a chance to be approved? Let us hope so.

Someone should remind him the he was one of the leaders of the Footscray Fightback, not the Western Fightback. Good luck to him, he's a keen and passionate supporter of the club.

That is right Lisbon- if he led the Footscray Fightback by instructing everyone that the club would be known as the Western Bulldogs- then the campaign would have failed - Anyway I heard Peter Gordon being interviewed on Radio Station 3AW back not long before the match started when we played the Eastern Tigers at the MCG in early August. The question was asked of him about the Footscray name and he was opposed to the re-introduction and went onto the tried and trusted line about how –

'THE WESTERN REGION OF MELBOURNE IS THE FASTEST GROWING AREA IN AUSTRALIA'

So that was back in August just before the Eastern Tigers gave us another one of many thrashings of 2012.

Anyway now to the middle of October 2012, I wondered if he may have changed his tune in the two months since that Sunday in August. Those hoping that he had- will be disappointed because he hasn't- he still believes in that the WESTERN REGION OF MELBOURNE IS THE FASTEST GROWING AREA IN AUSTRALIA AND IT WILL BE OUR WHITE KNIGHT.

Now the western region of Melbourne may well be the fastest growing area in Australia. It makes sense that it would (well in Melbourne terms) because the southern, northern and eastern regions are so much larger already than what the western region is. We are miles behind them- they expanded quicker than what we did, so there is plenty more room for the west to do some growing. But if you don't PLAY GAMES in this great new area- how will this encourage people to follow the club.

White Knights are always people- White knights are not REGIONS THAT ARE THE FASTEST GROWING IN AUSTRALIA. We are in large debt- the Herald Sun newspaper made mention on Friday that the debt figure is 10 million. Beforehand it was always explained as 5 million- now the real figure is surfacing. So we need a white night or white nights plural to sort this out. The outgoing President of 16 years is a Billionaire, but that means nothing when the club is $10million in debt, so having a billionaire as El Supremo is no guarantee that this millstone around our necks will be removed.

Maybe Gordon should lobby the State Government and all the local councils in the Western Region to put a poll tax of $100 a person on everyone living in what is deemed the 'Western Region' to help eradicate 'the bulldogs' debt. See how they would like that- I am sure the thousands and thousands of Collingwood fans that reside in St Albans, Sunshine, Braybrook, Melton, Tarneit, Altona, Kings Park, Delahey would love that added to their rates- they all struggle to pay their $900 a year Collingwood Legends Membership – so let's give them an extra $100 to find to help out 'The Bulldogs' who are the team of the west-
