The Sydney Swans won't play us in Melbourne- again- as they haven't since the Waverley Park game of 1998.
So that means that once again the Sydney Swans won't defeat us in Melbourne for another year, unless they play us in the finals and beat us then in September. They had the chance this year to roll us in the second final at the MCG- but just like 1997 and 2008, they couldn't do it this year either.
They haven't beaten Footscray or Footscray trading as- in Melbourne since 1987.
Other points worth considering -
(1) We play the Country Cats at Kardinia Park
(2) It will be the Western Bombers in Round 1- we have met them a few times in Round 1 through the years- they have won all the recent encounters between us Western clubs. Don't mention 1982- I was there- if you want to know about it- just look it up on this website or whatever else. Enough said about that game at Windy Hill.
(3) Just two games on the Melbourne Cricket Ground- Eastern Magpies and Eastern Hawks
(4) Not one home game on the Melbourne Cricket Ground for Western.

We beat Geelong at Kardinia Park in 1947 and then didn't win down there again until 1972. So the Sydney Swans are approaching that- they beat us at Waverely in 1987 and haven't beaten us in Melbourne since. Maybe if we can avoid them in Melbourne the following year (2012) as well as next season/year as well (2011) they will surpass that
Of course there were draws for us at Geelong in 1957 and they drew at the Western Oval in 1991, but basically the same principle applies.

Finally yes finally Sydney (not the Western one) will be playing us in Melbourne during the home and away season for the first time since 1998.
We won that game- at the now defunct Waverley Park.
So this fixture in 2012 will be the first clash between these two clubs at the Docklands Stadium.
Everyone make sure your clothing is predominantly blue on this date late in the season.
