Looking at the North Melbourne official website- they have 33,335 members.

http://www.kangaroos.com.au

What did they have last year as the Kangaroos? Wasn't it just 22,372.

They are nearly 11,000 more than last year when they were the Kangaroos.

Does David Smorgon or his board know this? Surely they must or will they only learn when it is mentioned at the Presidents Lunch before the game when the two teams meet? North are the club supposedly the most similar to us, so why wouldn't we increase our membership so markedly like they did?

Surely they would know that mate. Why have the Kangaroos- now back to North Melbourne increased their membership by around 11,000 people? All this talk about sympathy memberships by other clubs supporters etc will be used as a reason by those who dismiss that compelling statistic.

During their Premiership year of 1999 the newly named Kangaroos played a game at the MCG which attracted 12,000 people. It was Mothers Day, it was on free to air television, opponents were Fremantle etc etc.

They were a fine team- in 1998 they finshed on top of the ladder and lost the Grand Final. Then the next year, they become the Kangaroos and have a crowd like that (YES 12,000 prior to the Docklands being a venue) in a season where they went on to be the 1999 Premiers.

Eliminating North Melbourne and just being known by an animal, turned supporters away they could ill afford to lose.

Now these people have came back.

If the 'Western' board don't take note of this, then they are derelict in their duty of care for the clubs future. Asleep at the wheel, fiddling like Nero whilst Rome burns. Footscray has a bigger supporter base than North Melbourne, it needs to be found again- and finding that dormant following is not difficult at all.
