The Eastern Hawks jumper tonight-

Why?

Hawthorn's usual guernsey and the Port of Adelaide's can be told apart comfortably.

We at Western have the yawning cat on our guernsey, the Eastern Hawks jumper seem to have something resembling an owl or a brown rosella# on theirs.

What would the late great Roy Cazaly* make of that?

*Cazaly was the man who changed Hawthorn's nickname from the Mayblooms to the Hawks. The famous cray of 'Up Their Cazaly' comes from him. He also coached Hawthorn.

# Not that I have got anything against Rosella's- they are wonderful birds, so full of colour. Lovely to look at are Rosellas.

It's the "one home shirt and one away shirt" concept, Caveman. Use two guernseys regularly and hopefully you'll get the fans to buy both. Change them every year and hopefully you'll make a bundle.
We have the Americans to "thank" for that. In US sports it's been like that for decades. They say that baseball teams started wearing white at home and grey away because they couldn't wash their gear regularly on the road and the gray disguised the dirt. It's the same in the NFL, NBA and NHL, that is, every team wears one shirt when playing at home and another when playing away.
It arrived later to the AFL and to soccer, but there it is, weird birds and all!
Also, am I the only one to find Gold Coast's guernsey a bit bland (and their colors look like a faded version of Brisbane's) and the Western Giants' too weird?

Gold Coast is too bland- I agree, they should have gone for either red and yellow hoops or red and yellow stripes. They look too much like Sydney.

As for the next Western club- yes I am NOT sold on what they have at the moment.

I take on board about the home and away, but I can't really see Hawthorn fans buying enmasse their white guernsey with the brown rosella. They don't need to wear it.

I see the idea for an alternative uniform, but it should only be when there is to be a genuine colour clash that can't be avoided. Port Power and Hawthorn are easy to distinguish from each other.

I can't work out why St Kilda can't wear red shorts. That would have solved the clash uniform 'problems' (the 'problems' that weren't there anyway!) in last years Grand Finals.
