I am pretty disgusted at the article in today's Sunday Herald Sun. Kouta's five year old son is a Collingwood supporter. That is not what is disgusting me, it is the fact that Kouta seems almost proud of it. If you are wondering what I mean by being proud, why let the media know and photograph your son in the Collingwood jumper. It is like he is encouraging him and wants the publicity. The same with Daicos and his son barracking for Carlton. Again, letting him be photographed for a media story in the Carlton away guernsay. These two men are legends at their club and should be ashamed that their children don't want to follow the teams they played for, instead of parading them in the papers.

The kids will probably change their minds in a few years and they would have wasted their money on buying opposition jumpers, flags etc. I sincerely hope that none of our greats allow their children to be photographed in opposition jumpers and then pretend to be upset about it. I remember some friend's children who barracked for different teams then their parents for a short while and as their parents didn't buy them the merchandise, they soon went back to the family fold. If you want your kids to follow your team, don't buy them opposition jumpers and encourage them. Especially when they are only five years old.

Had I followed my Dad's team I would have supported Carlton.

[then again, he goes for Carlton because the day he arrived in Australia, he went to the pub and the bloke next to him asked him who he went for, and Dad said "whoever you go for" and thus he was forever tied to the Blues]

Peter Daicos before he ended up at Collingwood was actually a South Melbourne supporter. Fitzroy champion Garry Wilson was also a South Melbourne fan as a youngster.

I remember reading some years ago how Dixie Dean the most famous Everton player of all time had a son who was a mad Liverpool supporter! To those not familiar with this scenario Everton and Liverpool are two English soccer clubs both from the city of Liverpool and massive rivals- Dixie Deans is probably their greatest player - he actually died in 1985 at Goodison Park (which is Everton's home ground) watching them play. For his son to be a Liverpool supporter is 100 million times more significant and newsworthy than this Koutafides and Daicos story.
