Collingwood have won two wooden spoons since joining the old V.F.L for the 1897 season.

They were in 1976 and 1999.

In 1976 they were coached by Murray Weidemann

In 1999 they were coached by Tony Shaw

It was Murray Weidemann who was their Premiership captain in 1958 (an acting captain though for the injured Frank Tuck)

It was Tony Shaw who was their Premiership captain in 1990

So to follow this quirk it must mean that Nick Maxwell will coach them one day and to finish in last position like two of his predecessors.

Charlie Sutton also coached us to a wooden spoon. Premiership captain in 1954, wooden spoon coach 1967 in his second stint.

Teddy Whitten coached us to a Grand Final in 1961 and like Charlie Sutton in 1954 it was also as a captain-coach for the Grand Final

Yet two years earlier in 1959 we "won" our first of the four wooden spoons under Teddy's coaching. Charlie Sutton's wooden spoon in 1967 was as a non-playing coach

On another angle, Royce Hart was a Premiership captain in 1973 and 1974, but with Richmond and not with us. He got us half way to the 1982 wooden spoon as coach before he got the sack mid season.

Shush, Cavemen, you'll spoil their fun! Here's one Collingwood stat that I recently learned about: the last time they won a flag in September was back in 1958. In 1990 they also won in October, as they had to replay their qualifying final against West Coast. If the Grand Final was played in October more often, who knows how many flags they'd have!
