There it is, another term in office.

One of the first major tasks for David Smorgon as his 14 seasons in charge turns into 15 seasons in control, will be organising the supporters to contribute to the club initiated 'Bulldoze the Debt' campaign. This is similar to what Melbourne had with their 'Debt Demolition' which the demons implemented just after the new to the job Jim Stynes took over control of the club from the previous President Paul Gardner.

It was a tough introduction for a new President in Jim Stynes at Melbourne, but for the experienced David Smorgon and his settled Western Bulldogs board, their know how should be easier to co-ordinate the 'bulldoze the debt' campaign.

The question remains though- will our fans be so eager to readily contribute to this fund raising debt relief effort?

With Melbourne it was different- Jim Stynes a new President at that time, a club great taking control. The previous Presidents of the Melbourne Football Club that had followed Joe Gutnick, were unable to prevent club debt soaring- Stynes took over (with the Demons at the bottom of the ladder), introduced the debt demolition measure and it has been a success.

Our debt demolition- the (Bulldoze the debt as the Western board have named it) will be led by a President heading into his 15th consecutive season in that role. Some may not be as supportive of this considering that the Western Bulldogs President has been there for such a long time (as opposed to Jim Stynes.) The club has never been backwards at coming forwards to inform everyone what a wonderful job has been done by them for the club since the name change, however the cynical leaning of us might ponder why the fans need to dig into their pockets to help out this magnificent board that we have had for so long.

Where would we be without them in charge is the often heard cry?

Well with them in charge for 14 years we still need a debt demolition at the end of those 14 years.

I agree with everything you say Caveman. It is time for a change and having such a debt is not a good endorsement for a president who has been at the club for 14 years. We keep getting told that the change of name created success, money and sponsor support but we are being asked to dig in to help the club. Change the name back to its correct name Footscray and then I would consider chipping in.

Just saw Campbell Rose has quit. I know this guy has been pivotal in our 'rebuilding' but he is the worst of the Smorgan lapdogs. When Nathan Brown [judas] left in 03 he said it was mostly to do with Rose. [Of course he's not going to admit to being a prostitute though]

Well I am well and truly over the Nathan Brown situation- he didn't hurt us by playing in a Premiership, Grand Final or even a solitary final with the Eastern Tigers, so our noses weren't rubbed into it by his departure. This is opposed to others like David Thorpe and Robbie McGhie who played in a Premiership team for Richmond. He went for the bigger bucks- we assume he got them, although no onfield success for him in the team environment.

Anyway Campbell Rose is moving on- he was dedicated to the job and definitely a hard working bloke, driven and focused on what he believed had to be done. Will be interesting if he does take up a spot on the board- this appears to tie in with the proposed change to the constitution, that may happen at the AGM on December 16.
