Just heard North Melbourne coach Brad Scott on the AFL Winners program mention the Shinboner Spirit on the tv. No problem with Bon Scott invoking memories of the Shinboner Spirit (whatever it is?) but if using the same logic and being consistent- wouldn't Hawthorn have the Maybloom Spirit and Melbourne the Fuscias Spirit?

The point I am making is that they got rid of the Shinboners as their nickname to become the Kangaroos which is a generic nickname really- the kangaroos in this country. Bit like an Auckland/ Christchurch/ Wellington/ Palmerston North (hello John Clesse) rugby team having as their nickname the kiwis.

Maybe they should drop the kangaroos and re-introduce the Shinboner(s) as their current nickname? At least it is original and is totally and only connected to the North Melbourne Football Club.

They seem to love their previous nickname, so over to Hawthorn and Melbourne. Then Geelong could have the Pivotonian Spirit. Another reason why the demise of Fitzroy was so terrible- we could have had the Gorillas Spirit
