Our football club has not moved away from Melbourne to Brisbane, Tasmania the Gold Coast, Canberra or Sydney.

Well not yet, but what is there to say that we couldn't relocate (or be FORCIBLY relocated by the AFL) to Sydney in the future? Just like how Fitzroy did at the end of 1996- as they morphed into Brisbane- the nickname of the Brisbane club changing from their original Brisbane Bears to the Brisbane Lions. All they in Brisbane did was change their original nickname to one of a Victorian club that they merged/ took over?

The Greater Western Sydney colours of charcoal and orange are definitely original, although radically unconventional. Yet if they were dispensed with in the near future would any of their fans really care? They could be changed to red, white and blue and then throw in the change of nickname from Giants to Bulldogs. It is not that hard of a change to a club in its infancy- by dropping a nickname and colours it isn't going to get people off side that have followed a club for just such a short time.

This is not being alarmist- it is something that we have to assume is an option that the board would consider- especially an administration that continues to lose money and will most likely continue to do so.

I am very worried about this- we are so down on memberships from last year- we clearly won't have as many as last year.

As we all know the club has changed the uniform- back to what we had before the previous guernsey change. This is the right thing to do although the guernsey still needs some tinkering for it to be a true Footscray pre 1975 guernsey. The guernsey requires a red collar and also the bands need to be enlarged.

Yet the Western Sydney Bulldogs is still a possibility. All it needs is a few changes in AFL Directors- new ones who's philosophical bent is that of the laissez faire ideology. They would not be as hesitant to get rid of a club like the bulldogs(and some others) Changing the jumper back is lovely and correct but it isn't enough-

If we as a club rid ourselves of the directional nickname- then we are making a statement. We are announcing to the world that we are Footscray and we are here forever. As the 'wishy washy' Western Bulldogs or even just as 'the bulldogs' we leave ourselves open to anyone wanting to relocate us - a club with a generic name that can be easily moved around like pawns on a chess board, before the pawns get claimed by the more powerful pieces on that board.

It's Footscray to me and always will be.

I hate the Western Bulldogs name and refuse to call the club anything other than Footscray.
